Juvéderm: Non-Surgical & Long-Lasting Skin Treatments

As the years go by, our delicate facial skin begins to lose elasticity and those fine lines and wrinkles start to become more and more apparent. Fortunately, we have some amazing non-surgical procedures that can give your face a lift and provide a more youthful look, including Juvederm.

What Is Juvéderm?

Juvéderm falls under a type of cosmetic treatment known as fillers. Juvéderm was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2006, so it’s been a safe and popular option for more than 10 years.

There are several different types of Juvéderm treatments available, depending on your needs. For instance, our Juvéderm XC® treatments instantly smooth away lines along the side of your mouth and nose. Juvederm Voluma® treatments, add volume and a subtle lift to your cheek area. We also provide Juvederm treatments for lip enhancement.

How It Works

Juvéderm’s active ingredient is hyaluronic acid. That might sound a little scary, but it’s actually an acid that our bodies produce. Not only can it be used for facial and lip fillers, this substance also is used to treat osteoporosis as well as being used during various eye surgeries. Additionally, you will find hyaluronic acid as an ingredient in many products. This includes healing salves and moisturizers.

Hyaluronic acid is well-known for its moisture retention properties, and as the skin ages, its ability to retain moisture decreases and that’s one of the reasons why we start to see the progression of fine lines and wrinkles.

With Juvéderm, we inject the acid directly into the skin or lips and then massage the area gently to ensure an even distribution. Depending on the treatment area, it will take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour to complete the treatment.

Typically, you won’t find the procedure uncomfortable, as lidocaine is added to the serum to numb the area. If you are allergic to lidocaine, please let us know as Juvéderm might not be the best skin treatment option for you.

Aside from the non-surgical aspect of Juvederm, one of the things we love the best about this product is how long it lasts. Generally, you will see immediate improvement right after the procedure and the effects can last for up to a year, so this is a very long-lasting option.

Side effects from Juvederm are rare and can include redness, swelling or pain near the injection site, as well as tenderness or firmness, bruising and discoloration. Sometimes itching or dryness has been reported. Depending on the type of Juvéderm we use, these side effects might only last for two to four weeks, but, of course, not all Juvéderm patients will notice any side effects.

As with any procedure, please let us know about any allergies you may have and provide us with a list of medications that you are taking, including over-the-counter medicines such as aspirin, ibuprofen, etc.

Keeping Skin Youthful

Certainly Juvéderm treatments will provide you with a fresher, younger look, but there are a few other ways to keep your skin as youthful as possible. Our skin ages due to both internal or intrinsic and external factors. While it can be tough to alter these intrinsic changes, such as hormone fluctuations, we can reduce the effects of some of the external factors.

The greatest threat to our skin is sun damage, and wearing a moisturizer or makeup with both UVA and UVB protection is one way to limit sun-related damage. You also can wear a hat when out during the daytime, and consider avoiding the sun during peak daylight hours whenever possible.

Staying hydrated and eating a healthy diet also helps your body retain moisture and maintain a healthier, younger glow. Getting a good night’s also can provide the body with time to heal and rejuvenate.

Pollution also can damage our skin, which is why it’s important to gently cleanse the skin twice each day. If you live in a very dry climate or are prone to winter dryness, using a humidifier in your bedroom can help as well.
