Turn that Frown Upside Down

Wrinkles & Botox: Wrinkles result from a combination of many factors. It’s not just about cellular changes that can occur over time, reduction of collagen, or damage caused by free radicals in the sun and the environment. When you frown or concentrate, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. And when you squint, the muscles around your eyes contract and cause crow’s feet.

BOTOX® Cosmetic works beneath the skin’s surface and targets the underlying muscle activity that causes frown lines and crow’s feet.

What is Botox®?

Botox® is used to reduce or eliminate facial lines and wrinkles.  It temporarily blocks the communication between nerves and muscles.  When the nerves send the signal to frown, the frown muscles don’t get the message and—no frown lines!

Botox® was the first botulinum toxin made available and it is still the most widely used.  Other types are Dysport® and Xeomin®.

Where is Botox® used?

It is most commonly used for forehead wrinkles, glabellar “frown lines,” and crow’s feet.  We also use Botox® to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) of the armpits and hands as well to treat migraine headaches.

What about smile lines?

Botox® is not for lines caused by smiling.  Remember, Botox® works by weakening the muscles that cause the lines and wrinkles.  No one minds if they don’t frown, but no one wants to stop smiling!  These areas are best treated with dermal fillers such as Juvederm®, Vollure® and Volbella®.

Does Botox® work right away?

Botox® typically takes 3-5 days before being fully effective, although we have seen it begin to work after one day or take up to 1 ½ weeks.  After it takes effect your lines start to fade.  With very deep lines or wrinkles, you will likely need a few treatments spaced about 3 months apart before achieving maximal results.

How long does Botox® work?

The effects of Botox® typically begin to wear off after 3-4 months.  For best results you should have your next treatment before that time.

Is there any down time from Botox®?

No.  We commonly have people stop in for Botox® on their lunch break and go right back to work with little or no sign of having had anything done!

How long does a Botox treatment take?

The treatment itself takes about 10 minutes. If you’re new to Botox, we will take time to evaluate your face and discuss options before we inject. Like we said, plenty of people hop into our office for a quick convenient Botox treatment on their lunchbreak. Come see us for Botox in Charleston WV email call or text us (304)925-8949 to schedule.
