Project Description
Dermal Fillers Face & Jawline Contouring | Charleston WV
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are used to reduce the appearance of lines, wrinkles and folds in the face, create plump lips (lip augmentation or lip enhancement), as well as to restore the cheek volume lost over time—one of the major signs of aging. This procedure is often called a “liquid facelift.” Other uses include improving the appearance of the nose, chin and jawline ( ”liquid nose job,” “liquid rhinoplasty,” “liquid chin augmentation,” jawline contouring), contouring the face, softening the appearance of depressed scars, and restoring firmness to the earlobes.
Are there different types of dermal fillers?
Yes. The most popular dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a type of sugar found naturally in the body. It is one of the main substances that makes skin plump and firm. There are different formulations of hyaluronic acid (Juvederm®, Vollure®, Volbella®, Voluma®, Volux, each with their special properties and indications. We use the Juvederm Brand of fillers.
Juvederm®/Juvederm Ultra®/Juvederm Ultra Plus®/Juvederm Vollure®—great for softening the nasolabial folds (the folds running from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth), contouring the face, and plumping the lips
Juvederm Volbella®—best for fine lines, but also for lip augmentation and softening the circles under the eyes
Juvederm Voluma®—amazing for restoring the youthful fullness (the “apple”) of the cheeks.
Juvederm Volux is a newer filler that helps restore a more youthful jawline contour.
Many times a combination of dermal fillers–layering them–gives the ultimate result! (Juvederm/Vollure® and Volbella® for lip augmentation, Voluma® and Volbella ®for the circles/bags under the eyes). Sometimes this is referred to as a “liquid face lift.”
Having been a clinical investigator studying Juvederm® for Allergan® (think Botox®, Coolsculpting®, Natrelle® breast implants etc.), you can count on getting the expert guidance you need to obtain wonderful results!
Are the results of dermal fillers permanent?
Although long lasting, no hyaluronic acid dermal filler is permanent. Depending on the type used and the location placed, you may need touch up filler injections anywhere from several months to a year or more. For some uses, such as lip augmentation, repeat treatment may be needed sooner.
What dermal fillers can’t do:
Although dermal fillers can provide amazing facial rejuvenation, there comes a time when more is needed. When the skin and soft tissues of the face loosen and sag, sometimes a face lift is needed. That’s where our expertise comes in to your advantage. As board certified plastic surgeons, unlike other types of injectors, we have the ability to know and tell you when you might require more than a filler. We have the training and skill to safely perform facelifts. We liken it to “when you’re a hammer, everything looks like a nail.” We can tell you if you won’t get an optimal result from filler, because we have facelifts in our plastic surgery toolbox. Many of our patients don’t want a facelift though, and that’s ok, too. The choice is always yours, and we are happy to provide what ever services align with your goals, and you can trust that we will give you all of your options.
