SkinVive By Juvéderm: Enjoy A Youthful, Radiant Glow

While we can’t turn back the clock entirely, the team at Thaxton Plastic Surgery has an arsenal of treatments that provide our clients with a more youthful look and a radiant glow. One of our newest offerings is SkinVive, and this injectable from the Juvéderm family of treatments is quickly gaining popularity.

What Is SkinVive?

SkinVive was developed by Juvéderm, and we’ve been using their injectable treatments for many years with fantastic results. SkinVive is Juvéderm’s latest FDA-approved injectable treatment.

Unlike other Juvéderm products, SkinVive is not a dermal filler. Dermal filler injections typically are used to add volume to different areas of your face, such as your lips or cheeks. For instance, we use Juvéderm Voluma XC to plump up and restore volume in the cheek area.

With SkinVive, we inject microdroplets of hyaluronic acid into the dermis, and rather than increasing volume, this treatment boosts skin hydration and smoothness. As we age, our skin loses its ability to maintain hydration and its elasticity, which leads to dryness and fine lines. With SkinVive, we can counteract this aging process and provide you with a glowing complexion and a reduction in fine lines.

Hyaluronic acid is found in many skincare products, and this substance is also produced naturally by our bodies in our connective tissues. This acid helps the body retain water in the skin, as well as in our joints and even our eyes. We produce less of this substance as we age, which is why so many anti-aging serums and injectable treatments include hyaluronic acid.

Who Is A Good Candidate?

SkinVive is FDA-approved for adults aged 21 or older, and this treatment is safe for all skin types. We do not recommend this treatment for anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding as SkinVive, and typically we also don’t recommend this treatment for patients with any history of a pigmentation disorder.

If you currently have a compromised immune system, SkinVive might not be a good fit for you. Additionally, if you are allergic to lidocaine, this product will not be a good option to consider. We also don’t recommend SkinVive for patients with a history of severe allegoric reactions or who are allergic to any of the gram-positive proteins found in SkinVive. It is important that patients let us know about any allergies they have prior to treatment.

It’s also important to note that SkinVive is only available through a licensed physician and certain licensed practitioners. We always highly recommend having any cosmetic treatment performed in a medical professional’s office as this guarantees the best results and the highest level of safety.

Is SkinVive Painful? What About Side Effects?

With SkinVive, we are using a very small needle and lidocaine has been added to the product to minimize discomfort. Most patients find the injections only mildly uncomfortable at most, but of course, everyone’s pain threshold is unique.

As for side effects, the most common issues are redness and swelling as well as tenderness near the injection site. Some patients report side effects such as itching and bruising in the treatment area, but typically these issues will resolve within about a week after treatment. Generally, you may notice fewer side effects with this product because we use microdroplets rather than larger amounts of product.

How Long Does SkinVive Last? What About Downtime?

You should start to notice the results of SkinVive fairly quickly, within the first month of treatment. Keep in mind, that this product stimulates collagen production, which takes a bit of time. So, you should continue to see an improvement in skin texture and elasticity as the weeks go by.

There is little downtime associated with SkinVive treatments, although we recommend that you avoid exercise or strenuous activity for a day or two to allow the skin to rest and heal. It also can be wise to avoid drinking and smoking for a few days, as these also inhibit the body’s natural ability to heal quickly.

Of course, we always recommend that our patients cease smoking entirely and limit alcohol as this not only has a negative effect on our health but also ages the skin more rapidly. We also encourage our patients to stay hydrated and use a daily moisturizer with UV protection. This also helps keep the skin as fresh and youthful as possible and can help extend the life of beauty treatments.

Consider A Combination Approach

While SkinVive on its own might be just what you want, we also can combine the use of this new product with other options from the Juvéderm product line, or even combine SkinVive and Botox or a combination of several products.

For instance, we can use SkinVive to improve hydration and give you a radiant glow and then use Juvéderm Volux as a jawline filler to provide better definition in the jawline or jowls and perhaps a bit of Juvéderm Voluma to plump up the cheeks and some Botox or baby Botox to smooth out forehead wrinkles.

If you long for a more youthful look, but balk at the idea of a facelift or surgical approach, using these types of injectable treatments can provide you with what we like to call a liquid facelift. Of course, we also offer a wide range of other treatments, including dermaplaning, SkinPen, Morpheus8, IPL facials and much more. No matter what your skin type or skin goals, we likely have a treatment that can provide you with the results you want.
